Dental Bridges

Missing teeth can be uncomfortable, embarrassing and can lead to long-term difficulties. A dental bridge, also known as a fixed-bridge or fixed dental prosthesis, is a convenient way to restore your smile to its natural look.  At Filgiano Dentistry, our team is happy to work with you for all your dental bridge needs.

What is a dental bridge?

Dental bridges look like their name suggests: they are a bridge that extends over missing teeth from two healthy teeth, one on each side of the gap.  The bridge is fused to the crowns of the healthy teeth, and the artificial tooth is attached to this.

One of the great things about dental bridges is that they are permanent and with proper care, they should last 10 years or longer.

Getting a dental bridge in Markham

If you’re looking for the best dentist office in Markham, why not give us a try? We’d love the opportunity to make you smile.  When you come to us for a dental bridge or any other procedure, you can be confident that you’ll receive the same exceptional service that we would expect to receive ourselves.

The process of getting a dental bridge will take a few visits, but when complete, your great, natural smile will be restored.

On your first visit, the team at Filgiano Dentistry will prepare the teeth on each side of the missing tooth for the bridge. This procedure involves filing down the teeth so that a crown can be attached.  If your teeth aren’t healthy enough to support a bridge, you might require dental implants before the next step can begin.

After the teeth are readied, scan of your teeth will be taken. This scan will be used to generate a model of your teeth to create the new artificial tooth and the two crowns. When completed, the crowns and artificial tooth (or teeth) will be one piece, which is referred to as a dental bridge.

In order to protect your teeth and gums while preparing the new bridge, a temporary bridge will be put in. That way, you can continue on with your normal activities without concern of damaging your smile.

When you return to Filgiano Dentistry, we remove your temporary bridge and insert your new permanent dental bridge.  This bridge will either be cemented onto your natural teeth, or if necessary attached to the dental implants or either side of the missing tooth.

Of course, if you have any questions about the procedure along the way, simply contact our Markham dental office and we’ll be happy to take the time to discuss it with you.

Types of dental bridges

There are a few factors that can affect the type of bridge you will receive. These include the number of teeth you’re missing, the location of the teeth and the health of the surrounding teeth.

The procedure described above is for a traditional bridge, but the team at Filgiano Dentistry may recommend a different type depending on your needs. In some instances, a missing tooth or teeth is best remedied by a dental implant instead of a bridge.

If you have several missing teeth, you might require a dental implant bridge. This process involves the bridge being anchored to one or more implants, depending on the health of your teeth.

Finally, a Maryland bridge, also known as a resin-bonded bridge, is a bridge that is used to replace missing teeth at the front of a mouth. In this process, the artificial teeth are attached to metal bands and glued to the back of the natural teeth using dental cement.

Taking care of your dental bridge

Your bridge takes on the function of natural teeth, and requires the same care and attention that you give to them. You’re going to need to brush and floss your bridge daily, and ensure that you maintain regular checkups and cleanings.

When your bridge is in place, the team at Filgiano Dentistry will show you how to properly brush and floss it. It’s important to clean under and around the artificial tooth (or teeth), so we’ll make sure you’re comfortable with the special technique.

And of course, we’re here for you if you have any questions or concerns. We want to make sure you have the best dental experience in Markham, and are happy to offer a comfortable and friendly environment where you will receive the exceptional service you deserve.

If you have any questions at all about dental bridges or any other family or cosmetic dentistry procedures, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to hear from you.
