new patients

We are always delighted to meet new patients but realize that you may have questions about what to expect. We’re providing some answers here but you may have a specific question or concern that isn’t covered. If so, click on our on-line chat button in the bottom corner of this screen. We’ll answer back just as soon as we can.

How do you pronounce Filgiano?

It’s easier to pronounce than you think.
Fil-jee-an-o. Spelling it is another matter but whether you spell it Filigiano, Figliano, Silgiano or, the real way, Filgiano, we’re still the dentists you like.

How long will my first appointment take?

About an hour.

Do you do children’s dentistry?

Our friendly staff has a lot of experience with children and really enjoy their young patients. That being said, we love children of all ages!

What should I expect during my first visit?

We’ll begin your first visit by asking you to fill out a medical and dental history. This is an important step in helping us understand your background. If you have time before the appointment, you may fill out the dental/medical record form on-line by clicking here. No need to print it out or remember to bring it with you, it will automatically be sent to us. During the visit, we’ll go over your dental/medical form and do a complete oral exam, including x-rays, if necessary. Once we have all this information, we’ll chat with you to review what we’ve found. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions or tell us anything you’d like us to know.

When should I bring my child in for his/her first visit?

We recommend bringing your child in for his or her first visit around his or her first birthday. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, we’ll be happy to take a look at any age. If you’re coming in for an appointment yourself, why not bring your little one? He or she can have a ride up and down in one of our dental chairs to start things off on a fun note.

What happen if my child is nervous?

Patience is the secret when a child is fearful. We take the time necessary to respect your child’s need to move at his or her own pace, whatever it may be. Sometimes it takes a couple of visits to the office for a child to feel secure. We’re okay with that. One of our patients found it helpful that their children could be honest; “If the kids felt uncomfortable, they were allowed to say they felt uncomfortable.”

What about me? What if I’m nervous?

We understand children aren’t the only ones who get anxious going to the dentist. Often a bad childhood experience lingers and, as we get a bit older, it can be harder to discuss our fears. Apprehension from adults is no surprise to us and we treat patients of all ages with patience and respect, focusing on building a lasting relationship you can trust. In some situations, the use of nitrous oxide can also help reduce some of the anxiousness you may feel.

What type of payments do you accept?

Almost all of them! In addition to cash, cheque, Visa, MasterCard and Debit (sorry, no American Express or Apple Pay), we accept all Ontario company insurance plans. Our front desk staff is well versed in handling insurance payments and would be pleased to help you with your plan.

Do you offer emergency services?

Dental issues have a nasty habit of arising outside of office hours. We like to help out whenever we can so Dr. Tom and Dr. Gerry leave their cell phone numbers on our office answering machine when the office is closed. They do their best to help as quickly as possible. If, as can occasionally happen, you can’t reach either of them, we also leave emergency dental clinic information our answering machine.
