Filgiano Dentistry

Dr. Tom Filgiano was born and raised in Markham, where he grew up playing basketball and soccer while watching his father, Gerry Filgiano, build Filgiano Dentistry and care for generations of local families. From an early age, Tom saw firsthand the importance of putting people first. “My father always found time to help people, no matter how busy he was.”

After high school, Tom attended Acadia University, where he studied Kinesiology and graduated as the gold medalist in his class. He was drawn to dentistry because it combined two things he enjoys most: working with people and working with his hands. He went on to earn his dental degree from Western University, where he received the Professionalism Award at graduation.

Basketball remained a big part of Tom’s life throughout university. As a member of the varsity basketball teams at both Acadia and Western, he learned the value of preparation, discipline, teamwork, and attention to detail—qualities that continue to guide his approach to dentistry today.

Early in his career, Tom had the opportunity to work in Canada’s far north, including Moose Factory, Ontario, and Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. Providing dental care in remote communities with limited resources gave him a greater appreciation for the challenges many people face in accessing care, as well as how much modern dentistry has evolved.

Joining Filgiano Dentistry was a natural step for Tom, who started with the practice in 2017 and took it over in 2020. Today, he is proud to continue the tradition of providing personalized, patient-focused care to families in the community where he grew up.

Outside the office, Tom continues to be a lifelong basketball player, a devoted Raptors fan, and an enthusiastic golfer whenever he gets the chance. These days, he and his wife, Jayme, a local physiotherapist, spend most of their time keeping up with their three energetic boys and enjoying life in the Markham community they’re proud to call home.
